We completed our 12 hour Defensive Pistol class this past Saturday with last shot fired at 21:23. The day started at 07:30 with students and coaches meeting for breakfast. All are accomplished shooters and fabulous people.
We got started at 09:00 at Green Valley Rifle and Pistol Club with our safety brief and medevac plan and then began working on verbal challenges, interaction with law enforcement, drawing from concealment, re-holstering and then on to live fire training.
We fired over three hundred rounds during the course while improving our skills reloading and clearing malfunctions while moving, engaging multiple targets, working as a team against multiple threats and finished with by engaging multiple targets in low light and no light conditions. Below is a review from the " PistolPackingMama, MD":
The kinds of things that keep us up at night.
The kinds of things that instill happiness and joy in our hearts.
Both are equally good reasons to pursue competence in self-defense.
In a perfect world, the dignity and sanctity of each and every human being’s life would never be challenged. Unfortunately, as we well know, we do not live in a perfect world; we live in the human world.
While prudence dictates the existence of evil should not be blindly ignored, it also should not, in my opinion, diminish the joy of life or condemn us to live in fear. We must find balance. Awareness in this setting motivate us to pursue diligent and effective action to protect ourselves and our loved ones.
There is so much in this world we cannot control, or rely upon. But we can always make a positive difference in our lives, our families, and our communities: action cures fear.
I am relatively new to pistol shooting. If a year ago someone told me I would be running in the pitch dark holding a loaded firearm in one hand, and a flashlight in the other, and shooting 5 targets at center mass, I would tell them they are delusional… And yet, this is exactly what Mr. Gilbert’s excellent training has allowed me to do, almost effortlessly. I participated in his recent all-day Defensive Pistol Course, and the training was meticulous: from the manner and order content was discussed to the drills practiced, to the focus on safety and mutual respect, to the open discussions and course debriefing – 5-star! While I sincerely hope that each and every one of us honest and law-abiding people never have to face violent threats, I feel 1000% better prepared to protect my family should the need arise – thanks to Mr. Gilbert’s training.
If you are reading this right now and thinking “I would like to, but I don’t have time…” or “I will put it on my to-do list…” three words: GO FOR IT, you will not regret it. It may seem like 12-hours is a lot of time to invest in training, but… these 12-hours could literally be a life-saver. In a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world, one cannot go wrong investing in confidence through skill. Three words: go for it!!!
